Lady Meiklejohn, née Maud Louisa Hamilton Beamish (1869-1951), was the daughter of Rear-Admiral Henry Hamilton Beamish who held the office of Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria between 1878 and 1880. In 1893 she married Major-General Sir William Hope Meiklejohn (1845-1909), a military commander in the British Indian Army, who took part in many imperial campaigns and most recently had been in charge of the British garrison during the siege of Malakand, Afghanistan, in 1897. For the fifth and last Drawing Room of the Season, held by Alexandra, Princess of Wales on behalf of the Queen on 25 May, Lady Meiklejohn wears a gown of great beauty of rich ivory satin trimmed with “novelty chiffon” and pearls. Her train is of richly brocaded light-blue satin, with lillies of the valley and clusters of Eglantine roses.
